        Welcome to PHY 207! This course will cover a range of topics bridging between freshman physics and quantum mechanics. Perhaps the most important of these are lagrangian mechanics and wave phenomena, but the course will also include some special relativity and a bit of statistical mechanics.

        • Main Textbook: Classical dynamics of particles and systems, 5th edition, by Thornton and Marion.

        • Midterm exam: 10/27/11 at 11am, in-class.
        • Final exam: Date to be determined, January 2012.
        • Final grade: based on 40% final exam, 20% midterm, 35% problem sets, 5% class participation.
