Physics 207
Welcome to PHY 207! This course will cover a range of topics bridging between freshman physics and quantum mechanics. Perhaps the most important of these are lagrangian mechanics and wave phenomena, but also the course will include some special relativity and a bit of statistical mechanics.
Organization
- Lectures: 11am to 12:20 Tuesday and Thursday, room A07.
- Problem sessions: 8pm to 10pm on Tuesdays, Jadwin 343.
- Office hours: Wednesday 2pm to 3:30pm, Jadwin 325
- Weekly problem sets will be due on Thursdays at 4:30 PM in the Undergraduate Office.
- Main Textbook: Classical dynamics of particles and systems, 5th edition, by Thornton and Marion.

- Hand Outs: these will take the form of pdf-files posted on this web page and on Blackboard.
- Midterm exam: 10-29-09 at 11am, in-class.
- Final exam: 1:30pm to 4:30pm on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, in A07.
- Final grade: based on 40% final exam, 20% midterm, 35% problem sets, 5% class participation.
